Unlike double hung windows, single hung window sashes have just the lower segment as operable, moving upward. This seriously limits ventilation control options. With only half the opening capability, single hung windows cannot properly ventilate larger interior spaces. Single hung windows are also prone to excessive winter condensation due to inadequate passive airflow between the sealed upper and lower glass panes.
